There were waves of cheers as old students reunited to share friendships and memories from the media training college. The ‘Newstalgia’ Alumni Reunion, organized as part of the Silver Jubilee of the Institute of Communication and Journalism under the Calicut Press Club, literally spread the hum of nostalgia.
The Grand Alumni meet of the past 26 batches, ‘Newstalgia ’24, was held at Karaparamba Higher Secondary School on 19th February 2024. The mega-event was inaugurated by Sri. R Rajagopal (Editor at Large, The Telegraph). Nearly 460 alumni members took part. The program commenced with the recitation of the preamble of the Constitution of India followed by a benediction speech by Dr. M. N. Karassery.
The State President of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists, M.V.Vineetha, who is also an ICJ alumnus, was the chief guest. Ex-Calicut Press Club officials PP Abubakar, NP Chekutty, V. N. Jayagopal, and KM Mohandas, who were instrumental in establishing the ICJ, were honored on the occasion. Course director V. E. Balakrishnan, who has been leading ICJ for more than a decade and a half, was also honoured at the function . R. Rajagopal presented them with a memento.
Press Club President M. Firoz Khan, who is also ICJ Chairman, presided over the event. Senior Journalists Forum Kerala State General Secretary K.P. Vijayakumar, KUWJ former state president Kamal Varadur, and an alumnus, Poppies Group Chairman Shaju Thomas, spoke.
PS Rakesh, Secretary of the Press Club, who is also an ICJ alumnus, delivered the welcome speech and Ummer Puthyotil, Chairman of the Welcome Team, gave the vote of thanks.
The new office bearers of the Alumni Association, I CAN, are Umer Puthyotil (President), PS Rakesh (Secretary), PV Najeeb (Treasurer), Shaju Thomas, Shida Jagad (Vice Presidents), Sreeharshan, Minusha, K.C. Rahna (Joint Sec).
